Tešanj Castle

Tešanj, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The foundation of Tešanj Castle was started even before the Romans conquered the region. Exact dates are unknown. It was later enhanced by the Romans, Slavs and the Ottoman forces. It has been primarily a defensive fortification. Tešanj Castle is one of the most significant and biggest castles in Bosnia, with an area of 6,296 square metres. During the Ottoman period, the destroyed castle was rebuilt castle and it had a permanent garrison.

You get to see 3 museums for 1€ entry ticket. There is also a nice caffe at the top of ghe castle. Awesome place to viait but not much to do.

Beautiful castle , i visit it often. You get an amazing view of Tešanj from the top and especially the old part of town. Highly recommend!

Tešanj is a lovely small town filled with pebbled streets and history. We didn't have plenty of time to investigate them. We j7st had enough to climb the hill and the castle. The entrance fee is 1 euro. It is a pretty steep climb so wear adequate pair of shoes. The view from the top is gorgeous.

Clickimin Broch

The Broch of Clickimin is a large and well preserved, though somewhat restored broch near Lerwick. Originally built on an island in Clickimin Loch (now increased in size by silting and drainage), it was approached by a stone causeway. The water-level in the loch was reduced in 1874, leaving the broch high and dry. The broch is situated within a walled enclosure and, unusually for brochs, features a large 'blockhouse' between the opening in the enclosure and the broch itself. Another unusual feature is a stone slab featuring sculptured footprints, located in the causeway which approached the site. Situated across the loch is the Clickimin Leisure Centre.
