Link has hacked into a security camera near the recruit's position, which shows you an alleyway filled with bluepills. To figure out which bluepill is the recruit, you must supply some information; their psychological profile, gender, body frame, facial features, hairstyle, and starting clothing.
The first thing you are asked to do is reference the psychological profile of the character. Through this process you determine your starting attributes, which can affect how much health or inner strength the character starts with, or what bonuses they have in combat. There are 10 options you can choose. Each option gives you a slight bonus in one attribute and a small penalty in another. This is the first place where you get to think about what kinds of abilities you would like to focus on. Keep in mind that this is just the initial loadout. With each new level, you will gain additional points that you can use to raise your attributes.
Once you have picked a psychological profile, you need to determine the look of the recruit that you are hunting for. At the top of the screen is a selection of pre-created characters that you can select, or use as basis for the character you want to create. Hitting the search button gives you more pre-created options. In the rest of the screen, you can use the options to choose the specifics for the character.
There are multiple male body types and multiple female body types to choose from. These range from thin to muscular. Because the Matrix is a virtual world, your body frame and muscle mass don't affect how strong a character is in the Matrix, so it's best to pick whichever body frame feels right for the character you want to create. There are also many skin tones and body tattoos that you can choose from, allowing for even more customization.
Males and females both have a large variety of face shapes and facial details. On both males and females, details include piercings, makeup, and facial tattoos. Males also have a number of different facial hair options. On top of that, there are a large number of hairstyles, long and short, for both males and females. When you are choosing an option such as facial details or hairstyle, the camera zooms in to show you a close up of the face, which you can rotate to see the options from all angles.
